I haven't ever tried such a thing, so I am speaking from ignorance, but my instinct (for a game) would be one I don't think you have mentioned: lean away from the dominant subplot toward the weakest subplot.
If the game isn't for children and it is a mystery, then I'd try to make the player be a rebel. They have to do the hardest thing by not taking your easy bait.
