Topic : Re: Can I use freewriting for fiction writing? I have been reading articles on the merits of freewriting, but many of them only apply the practice to academic writing in the prewriting stage. I'm - selfpublishingguru.com

Freewriting is normally used to break through writer's block and to teach yourself how to write when you don't feel like it.

It is the art of just writing even if you are writing the same word over and over again. Often it is writing gibberish.

However, it is a technique. If you get something useful from it, more power to you! For you it might be a good way to access the creative part of your mind without the critical part stopping you.

If somebody finds that reading tea-leaves gives them good ideas for writing, then they should do that.

Maybe I should look through my freewriting exercises to see if there are useful nuggets of story in them.
